| | | responsibility of schools? Today there was a news snipped here about a year 12 student who failed his exams and therefore will not get his high school diploma. The father of this student feel that since the boy went to a private school they are now entitle to get their fees back because the boy failed his exam....
Honestly I do not think the school has any responsible here. What do you think? Should the school returned the fees? |

| | | I don't think the school should return the fees in the least. Now I am curious as to if did the school contacted the father that the child was having certain problems in certain areas? I mean don't most schools practice these tests throughout the school year? If so I would think there would have been some red flags thrown up that there may be issues. |

| | | responsibilty of schools I feel that the school has responsibilty to let the parents to know how there child is doing. But as far as getting there fees back I really don't think they should have too. |

| | | There must have been some warning signs that the child was not performing up to standard, I would want to think that his father would have had a few consulatation with the teacher to find out what his progress is like. |

| I agree with others here... weren't there any warning signs that he was failing previously?! Well in any case, I really don't think that private school tuition should be refundable just because the child failed. |

| | | If the school was doing it's job properly & keeping the parents informed, then I can't see how the father can now be demanding his fees back.
It's always possible that the child had an 'off day' on exam day & suprised everyone of course. But equally, that's really not the school's fault. |

| | | Perhaps the parents were not involved in the child's school. It seems surprising that they would not know he was not doing well. My sons report cards are never a surprise to me, I keep in contact with the teacher. |

| | | Heck we can even get online to see how our sons are doing if need be. But I agree that the school should not be responsible. |

| | | I have no idea how much the father knew, but I will assume that the school did what they could of informing him.
But let say if the school did not inform the parents about how this boy was doing. Would you as a parent contact the school and demand to know this information? At least I would. |

| | | Of course not, my daughter goes to a private school as well and just because we pay for our child's education doesn't mean we can ask for a refund if she fails. It is the school's job to make sure they teach these children the lessons, but it takes two to tango and it is the students' job to learn. | | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
