Drinking during pregnancy.
There is general agreement that women should not drink alcohol excessively during pregnancy and debate continues over whether there is a safe limit and, if so, what this is. In addition, people have many different views about how much alcohol is safe to drink during pregnancy.

What do you think?

Alcohol and smoking is a no-no when a woman is pregnant. And even if there are new studies about them being allowable, I still believe that mothers take it upon themselves not to drink or to smoke because it can affect the baby is one way or another.

I don't think alcohol should be drunk at all during pregnancy. Some people have different views on it but no one should drink excessively during pregnancy. It's just plain bad for the baby's health.

Unless you are a raging alcoholic, you should be able to say no for those 9 months. It wan't kill you but might save your child.

Very easy to say if your not in the position where maybe you are an alcoholic before pregnancy or the stress of pregnancy makes you drink or even if your social group drink and they do not want to know you unless you are out having fun with them. All 3 are difficult situations.

Opinions please.

I don't think drinking during pregnancy is a good idea. They don't know how much is too much, so why take the chance. It's only nine months.

Well if you are currently an alcoholic then you shouldn't be falling pregnant .. come on people responsibility here please!

Being pregnant is not about the mother or father, it is about doing the BEST for your unborn child, this is non negotiable.

No alcohol at all should be consumed when pregnant. It has been shown to cause problems for the baby's in many instances. It is necessary to stay away from it.

Swiftmom how narrow minded have you never heard of people having children that are not plannede. Just because you are an alcoholic does not mean you should not have children. It like saying if you have a disability you should not have children. Plus been an alcoholic does not nescessarily make you a bad parent.

Also what if say I am an alcoholic and do fall pregnant what tyhen? You said the responsibility is for the child??????? So the child excists whether their parents are alcoholics or not.

Also are you saying that the well being of the parents is not important as long as the well being of the unborn child is attended to????

O.k I have to say that if you are an alcoholic sorry but that last thing you should be considering is bringing a child into that situation. I am a child of an alcoholic family and let me tell you it has effected so many aspects of my life as an adult. From the way I deal with problems to how when someone even smells the least like they have had a drink makes my stomach turn.
That being said I do understand that accidents can happen that a person who is an alcoholic can get pregnant but if they have any commen sense they would not intentionally get pregnant while still in the process of drinking.
