| | | Do you Take Advice? There are so many rules to follow when pregnant now :
no drinking
no smoking
no uncooked eggs, soft cheese
no nuts
etc
Did you follow these when you were pregnant or if you are pregnant are you following them? Do you think they are over the top? |

| | | I don't drink and don't smoke anyway so in my pregnancy time that was not something I had to fight to give up. Also , due to my lost of appetite and vomiting sensations I didn't eat even normal cooked food ( no matter how tasty appeared )much less uncooked eggs . |

| | | The reason that I asked this was because I was very careful during my pregnancy and followed all of the rules. I guess it was because I worked so hard to get pregnant (2 years trying then fertility treatment) and I do not drink or smoke so it was pretty easy for me to just give up soft cheese, uncooked eggs and nuts.
I am very surprised to see pregnant people drinking alcohol. I have seen several do it lately and I would have thought they would have known better. I was not so surprised at the first person as they were not trying to get pregnant so perhaps did not have the same feelings. The second person had been trying for years and had fertility treatment. I would have expected that after going through all of that they would have been as careful as they could be. |

| | I had my kids back in the days when smoking wasn't frowned upon, and had two healthy kids. My first OB prescribed Valium for me and when I thought I might be going into labor he told me to drink a glass of wine, relax, and call him if anything else happened, but nothing did. This OB has delivered three of my grandchildren and his rules have changed with the times. Too bad as well; I was never so care-free as when I was pregnant with my first. |

| | | Drinking and smoking at least in the first months of pregnancy is definitely bad ,no matter there were some parents that drank and smoke and their kids are well. Those mothers put their children's health to a risk. |

| | | I don't drink or smoke so I don't have a problem with these, however I see no problem in having some nuts and eggs if I feel like eating it. I ate them and had no problem, but I did it in moderation. |

| | | I think the eggs risk is to do with salmonella. It doesn't hurt the child but if you get it when you are pregnant it can be extremely nasty.
With nuts they say that if you have a family history of allergies you should not eat them as it may cause the children to have an allergy. That is what they told me anyway. |

| Are we really not supposed to eat nuts during pregnancy? Looks like I've been ill-informed. I don't drink, don't smoke, and I don't eat any of those in the list except for nuts. Is it harmful to the baby, or does it just cause some stomach ache for the mommy?
If it is harmful to the baby, would you mind elaborating how so? Exactly what does it do to the baby? Thanks. |

| | | In the UK it is thought that if you have a family risk of allergies then eating peanuts can cause children to have a peanut allergy and therefore I avoided all nuts during my pregnancy as we have close family members with hay fever. However, thinking seems to have changed recently and now they are saying only if you have a family history of nut allergies should you avoid them but otherwise a few might help reduce the risk of allergy. It is all so confusing so if you have any concerns I would speak to your midwife. I am happy to say that my sons show no signs of nut allergies (or any other types of allergy). |

| | Well my daughter is allergic to a few things but those allergies she got from her father's side. My family, however, are not prone to allergies, but my husband's mother is allergic to some things. I would have to ask him about this, and tell him to stop buying nuts. | | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
