Drinking infront of the children is really a bad habit. parents should know that it will makde an adverse effect to their children. kids can capture the behavior very fast. so i think parents should not drink infront of children, infact drinking is injurious for everyone.

My husband and I occasionally will have a drink, but never in front of our child. Kids these days are faced with enough temptations that they don't need to be exposed to mom and dad drinking in front of them and putting out the message that it's okay - even if it's followed by "drinking is for adults".

I think that kids should be brought up knowing about alcohol, and the best place to get that education is in the home. If kids see their parents drinking responsibly then I think they are far more likely to treat it responsibly themselves when they are older. If parents treat alcohol as a big taboo, then kids are likely to just want it more.

In countries where drinking wine as part of a meal is common, such as France & other parts of Europe, you really don't see teen drunkeness in the same way as you do in, say, the US or UK.

Just wondering, but those that are against drinking (and I don't mean getting drunk) in front of your kids-do you also not drink coffee in front of your kids? Is this not an "adult" drink also?
I was raised in a culture that it was ok for kids to have wine (very and I mean very diluted with water or seltzer water) with dinner. Us kids grew up (and most of the kids I knew) not having a drinking problem. On the contrary, we knew what alcohol was and that yes, it is an adult drink and we respected it as such.

Yes, I agree that if you are not planning on getting drunk in front of them, having a drink or two in front of your kids is OK. Especially if you have some wine with dinner, it is a cultural thing you are doing, rather than a partying kind of thing you are doing.

I do think that getting drunk in front of kids is not good. It could be very detrimental to a child.

Getting drunk infront of your children is a BIG no, no, but drinking a glass or 2 is fine. I remember my beloved father (he already passed away) telling us to "follow what I say, but don't follow what I do" when we were still children. He would always tell us not to smoke and drink, but we knew that he's smoking and drinking. But despite it, I followed my father and never smoked and drink during my teenage years and I respected and loved him so much. I only learned to drink a little bit when I already started working here in Europe.

But when my dear brother started drinking and smoking, my father talked to him, but he was not able to force my brother to stop coz he's also doing the same,

I would rather say, excess of everything is really bad. But as far as drinking in front of your children is concerned, I would recommend you not to drink in from of them. There are several reasons behind including they have their parents as a perfect example. If parents are not controlling themselves than who will take the responsibility?

Apart from being shameful for a parent to act in such an irresponsible and selfish manner drinking alcohol in front of his children , it may become a challenge for kids to try to do the same thing whenever they remain unsupervised , even for a little time . In my country I 've seen quite often on news children that went in alcoholic coma and eventually some of them died after drinking from their parents scotch bottle when they got the chance to find it.
