We used a pacifier, and still do. Although, we've weaned to just having it in the crib. He often spits it out during the night and doesn't have any problem going back to sleep without it.

I'm not looking forward to breaking it totally, but I think the day is getting very close that we get rid of it for good.

No! I didn't use a pacifier for my daughter. I wouldn't want her sucking up nothing but air. I don't recommend it to anyone.

My 2 year old used a pacifier, although my husband swears up & down that she didn't. That's why we went through 4 of them in a year... Men. We didn't have a problem weaning her from it, I don't think she was that hooked on her paci.

My 6 month old refused to take one from the very beginning & as soon as she figured out how to get her thumb to her mouth, she's been sucking on it since. Now that's what I'm not looking forward too, breaking the thumb-sucking habit. I know it can be hard because my 16 year old sister is still sucking her thumb from when she was a baby.

there is actually suggestions that using a pacifier is good for babies and lower the risk of sids. I didn't use one myself as a baby, but would have no trouble letting my kids use one. I think the key is to limit the use for bed time and as phoeny pointed out, many kids choose to suck on their thumb instead and that is a harder habit to break.

My daughter never wanted anything to do with it. I guess she was like your
children... if there was nothing to eat there, why bother? I know what you
mean about seeing a lot of babies using them now... some of the designs
look really comical when they have them in their little mouths.

Both of our kids enjoyed Nuks and switched between that and usually the center two fingers of their hands. We had heard wicked tales of dental deformity and emotional distress, but they developed neither.

Did you use a pacifier
I did for a short while with both of my kids. But they really didn't seem to care for it much. So I thought it was the best time to stop using them.

I didn't want to use one. Someone gave me some as a present and I didn't give them to the boys when they were babies. Then the one was still not sleeping through the night after a year so I tried to give him one hoping he might settle with it but it did not work.

My daughter didn't really use pacifiers but I kept buying her these cute little flower-shaped pink ones because I loved pinning them on her clothes for effect.
My son doesn't use pacifiers either, but this time I've already grown out of that phase and no longer buy him any just to pin on his clothes.
