How long?

how long do you allow your kids to sit on the internet?

or you dont impose any kind of restrictions whatsoever?

personally i have set a max of 3 hrs for my kids..so that they dont get addicted to the computer..be it games or the internet..

I guess that depends very much on what it is they are doing on the computer.

If it's games try to limit it and get in some 'outside' time, if it's homework I guess till they are done.

I think it also depends on how old they are and what they are doing on the computer. For my almost 5 year old I set a timer. He can play games on educational websites for no longer than 30-45 minutes at a stretch and only twice a day so he's doing other, more active things as well. Our 11 year old has some more leeway so she can do homework and check her email. The only internet connected machine is in the living room, she has one in her room that will run games, music, OpenOffice, GIMP, etc.

Three hours a day? My son would think he was in heaven. He gets 1 hour of screen time but can earn more sometimes. Sometimes he saves it up to have more time on the weekends. The only internet-connected machine the kids can use is also in our living room. I think they are safer in a public area.

Yes , you should allow children to use computers only in public area because if they get it in private then they will surely do nasty things

We vary on how much time our 7 year old is on. We are sure to be close by, esp if he is on the internet. He likes to go on Star Wars and toy sites. We usually keep it under an hour and this is only 1 or 2 days a week.

I don't worry at all about my children doing "nasty things". I worry about the predators on the 'net who could propose nasty scenarios to children.

My daugther is no where near the age to use the Internet yet. But even when she is I'll probably just let her on for no more than an hour with supervison.

I think 3 hours per day is a lot. Is that 3 hours of TV, video games, and computer all included? If so then that seems ok. I think it's important to keep an eye on what our children watch on TV as well, it's getting worse every year. I can't believe how liberal primetime has become with sexuality and I don't like my son seeing any of that.
