Use of proxies

There is a new trend in surfing internet through proxies to avoid parenting control and other restricted sites. many ISP's are blocking the proxies but they are coming in vat majority. there are many proxy nets with 100+ sites in one set just to make some profit and providing teenagers ultimate resource to view prohibited material of internet.

Is there any way we can block access to all the proxies residing within a framework?

It's a very tricky thing to do. My husband worked as an IT specialist in a high school and was forever adding proxy sites to the block list. It's unfortunately a matter of trying to be one step ahead of the kids trying to get around the filter. If you Google to find proxies and add as many as you can find to your block, it's a good start.

To block all of the proxies in the world it would be near impossible. You could always track the sites that they go to and see if they are going to any proxies but it is difficult.

At college's they go through Google and find networks of them and block them.

That's more of a tchnical issue, but for small controlled environments, admins could only grant access to specific sites (eg: schools)

Not sure if that would work however

blocking proxies is not easy..every other day there are new sites which are proxy...

i agree with mikey the best thing is to have a program which only allows certian sites...rather..than blocking certain sites...

As long as there are clever people who want to get around the system (whatever the system may be) there will be new proxy sites. It's a sign of the new society we live in that this is the way kids are rebelling...

Proxies have their good purposes too. It can be a good way to protect your privacy. The abuse of these services to access pornography I think has more to do with providing children with too much freedom in regards to the internet. Sure they will whine and cry about any restrictions you put on it's use, but the tighter my parents were about my internet use (back when we had a 14k dial-up) the more resposible I was and I think it was a good thing.

Only allow kids to use internet in very public places, they shouldn't have an internet hookup in their bedroom where they can surf all alone with frequency. The youth are just to curious and impressionable to these things and it's for the best that they limit their online usage.

In the end, there is also going to be technology to get around any filters that are created. How about being a responsible parent and teaching them right from wrong and then trusting your children to make the best choices.

Just to agree with several of the other posters here that are tons of new proxies every day. I am active on some technical and web forums where these types of proxy site are bought and sold for as little as a couple hundred of dollars. It should give you an idea as to how easy they are to create.
