I think it's important to have grandparents involved in their grandchildren's lives. It gives children a bigger sense of "family" and "belonging", and lets them know, first hand, a bit about where they've come from.

Yes, grandparents are the big part of children's life. its because grandparents need a friend in their age and even children need the friend to play and to behave childish. thus, grandparents gives almost of their time with grandchildren, so they are more close to children.

grandparents
I am grandparent and I am a big part of my grandkids life. And would not have it any other way. I do not over step my bounds, but I am always there for them.
