Parental Filter

I'm going to be researching the new Swine Flu... I've heard a lot about it
the last few days and I think all of us, especially those with children, need
to know what it is and what to do about it if it hits home. Sure hope it
doesn't turn into a widespread issue!

Sorry, I've been through Swine Flu I-5, Bird Flu, Asian Flu, and every other flu we've been threatened with. I'll believe it when I see it.

This one is looking serious, I am worried that it could spread very quickly, but I hope it doesn't.

Yes, I remember those... especially that Bird Flu a couple of years ago. I can't tell if this will turn out to be the same or not so I'm hoping it, too, will end up just blowing over. What most amazes me is that we're never READY for them... like after the Bird Flu talk stopped, I'll bet that people stopped trying to find a "cure." Hope I'm wrong.

Problem with being ready, and this is the same with the flu shots you get in the Autumn, is that the researchers are never quite sure what flu or strains of flu are going to be the most prominent, in order to make the most effective vaccine. They have to "wait and see". Same with this kind of flu; they've got to have a handle on the sickness before they can come up with the "cure".

I don't really want to think too much about it because the potential seriousness of this really scares me. I hope it will work out OK.

I'm scared too, but I don't think there is much we can do except wait and see what happens.

Well, this is true... and it's all over the news with fresh things happening with it daily. I just hope it goes away like the Bird Flu seems to have done.

I hope I am not just being an old misery, but I am very much afraid that this is not going to go away in the way that the others did.
