Logging Children's Meds
Does everyone here use a log to keep track of their children's medication?

I know of a couple who had a boy with asthma, and they came to realize that they'd been double-dosing him for weeks because each parent had been giving him his medication.

It is good that the medicine should be given to the child only by the parent that stays at home with him/ her mostly of the time during his/her sick time . That way there is no risk for the baby to have his/her medicine doubled-dosed .
And in any case the parents should talk to each other about that , it's hard to imagine how a situation like that lasted for weeks, did these guys never talk about their child condition at all ?

Wow that sounds risky. We make sure that we tell each other when we have given any medication to the children so that they do not get overdosed.

Around the same time, we had other friends who kept a log with their dog's medication.

As awkward as the comparison is, the dog was getting the perfect dosage, because no matter who of the three people who lived in the house actually gave the dog the medicine, it was logged and everybody checked the log before giving the dog its meds.

I think that would work for people, too.

That has always worked for my dog. Still, there have been times when I forgot to mark the calendar, yet I knew that the medicine was given. So there is always the possibility of an error.

I don't do it and I have never thought of it before, but I think it is a great idea.

I don't but they are not on a lot of medications that I have to keep track of on a daily basis. If either of them were though I would definitely chart the medication.

No, at home we actually do not log our kids' medications. However, they are only sick very seldom so usually meds only last for 7 days. What we do is that we simply use our memory to remember when's the next time the child should take his medicine. We will have one parent in charge with the medications, the other parent can remind or ask the other but does not give the child the medication himself, unless requested by the parent in charge.
