Skimmed milk
One of my friends just been promoted as a DAD but his wife can't fed her baby, now doctors recommend him to use skimmed milk to fed the baby. is there any technical guidelines for buying anything for newborn? because this is a sensitive matter so we needs to collect some more information before going any further

I've not heard of skimmed milk being used to feed baby. There are specially made formulas for babies if moms cannot feed their baby. I'll shall dig out a list for you for essential items for newborns.

paranoid87 is correct, you must not use Skimmed milk in place of breast milk! it can never be a proper substitute..let alone compete.

I've been told that even older children shouldn't be fed skim milk. Fat is critical for brain development and is essential to developing neurons. A proper infant formula provides all the nutrients that growing babies need. If real formula isn't available where you live, I'd suggest getting a second opinion from another doctor or just using whole milk.

cow's milk really shouldn't be introduced to a child until 1 year. For children needing a supplement, forumla should be used unless otherwise directed by a doctor.

Regular milk (skim or not) does not have all of the proper nutrients for development in an infant.

I don't think you can use skimmed milk for newborn babies. I suggest you see another pediatrician on this. You can even read on the milk carton that it is not intended for children less than 3 years old.

All these people are right, skimmed milk is not recommended for anyone under 3. And personally, I wouldn't drink the stuff, to me it tastes like watered down milk & is nasty.

If you can't get any formula and the mother can't breastfeed, I'd suggest finding a wetnurse. I know that seems old-fashioned & to some people, gross, but that's what they used to do when a woman couldn't produce milk & the babies were just fine. So it is a good choice, if you have to do it.
